The ambitious Grace St Project has received a $25,000 boost thanks to the funds raised from the Invercargill Rotary Club’s annual Book Sale.
Invercargill Rotary Club Book Sale Committee Chair Richard Russell handed over the obligatory novelty cheque to Grace Street Project trustees on Tuesday.
Grace St Project chairperson Janette Malcolm was thrilled to have been chosen as the major recipient of the 2024 Rotary Book Sale.
“Being selected as the organisation to be the major recipient of the book sale was a vote of confidence in our project and a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the initiative, our goals and connect with the community over the three days of the sale”.
The Grace St Project will see the former Grace Street Chapel, beside the south city shopping area, rebuilt into a multi-purpose facility for the community.
The Grace St Project has raised $3.4 million so far and with architect plans now finalised, the project was underway with its preliminary site works.
The multipurpose facility will include seven studio spaces, a tech hub and a community lounge.
“We know this project will be an absolute game-changer for the community and we can’t wait to see it realised,” Malcolm said.
